Household Population by Country of Citizenship in the Ilocos Region; 2020

The Ilocos Region had a total household population of 5,292,297 in 2020. The region exhibited a diverse mix of foreign citizens from various countries, with the United States of America and China being the leading contributors. Additionally, the region's provinces—Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan—showcased unique patterns of foreign citizen presence alongside a significant population of Filipino citizens. This report highlights the region's multiculturalism and underscores the importance of understanding demographic trends for informed decision-making and policy development. Ilocos Norte has a population of 608,508, Ilocos Sur has 704,218 residents, La Union has 820,343 residents, and Pangasinan boasts the highest population with 3,159,228 residents. (Refer Figure 1)

In terms of foreign citizens residing in the Ilocos Region, the leading countries of citizenship were notably diverse. The majority came from the United States of America, accounting for 2,951 individuals, followed by the People's Republic of China with 423 individuals. Other notable contributors included Australia with 203 individuals, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with 200 individuals, and Taiwan (the Province of China) with 53 individuals. This demographic diversity adds to the region's multicultural tapestry, underscoring its appeal to people from various parts of the world. (Refer Figure 2)

Filipino with Dual Citizenship in the Ilocos Region; 2020

This comprehensive analysis reveals the distribution of individuals holding dual citizenship across diverse regions, provinces, and highly urbanized cities within the Ilocos Region. Particularly noteworthy is the substantial contribution of the Ilocos Region as a collective entity, contributing a significant share to the overall count of Filipinos possessing dual citizenship, totaling 5,384 individuals. When examining the specifics for the provinces and highly urbanized cities within the Ilocos Region, the breakdown is as follows: Ilocos Norte with 728 individuals, Ilocos Sur with 1,077 individuals, La Union with 1,015 individuals, and Pangasinan with the highest count of 2,564 individuals. This data underscores the substantial presence of dual citizenship holders within the Ilocos Region, with each province and urban area playing a distinct role in contributing to the overall figures. Examining the data pertaining to individuals with dual citizenship, a noteworthy observation emerges: the ten countries that hold the largest concentration of Filipino dual citizenship holders The United States of America leads the list with a significant count of 2,703 individuals. Following closely is Canada, with 801 individuals, while Australia holds 139 dual citizenship holders. Italy and Spain stand as substantial contributors, with 339 and 290 individuals, respectively. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland follows suit with 167 individuals, while Hong Kong, SAR of China, registers 53 individuals. Israel holds 20 individuals with dual citizenship, while Switzerland and Germany each have 59 and 120 individuals, respectively. These statistics shed light on the prominent presence of dual citizenship holders from the Philippines across these nations. (Refer Figure 4)

Foreign Citizens in the Ilocos Region; 2020

The analysis of citizenship data from foreign countries reveals interesting patterns in the four provinces of the Ilocos Region, Philippines. In Ilocos Norte, the United States holds the highest number of citizens with a count of 40. Moving to Ilocos Sur, India takes the lead with a substantial number of 162 citizens, showcasing a strong connection between the two regions. Meanwhile, in La Union, India's influence is even more pronounced, boasting the highest number of citizens at 352. However, Pangasinan stands out as the province with the most significant foreign influence, particularly from India, which claims a remarkable 855 citizens in the region. (Refer Figure 5)
