The 34th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration with the theme, “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines" will jumpstart in the Ilocos Region through an opening ceremony on 03 October 2023 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – La Union (BSP-LU) Conference Room, City of San Fernando, La Union. It is organized by the Regional Statistics Committee I (RSC I) composed of various Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), Academic Institutions and Private Sectors.
The theme for this year’s celebration emphasizes the importance of data and statistics in enhancing health outcomes. Data Statistics play crucial and significant role in improving the quality of health in the country. The role will be played best with the development of data that are essential for policymaking and decision-making by the government, private sector, data users, and other stakeholders.
The activities for the month-long celebration of the NSM in the region are: “Danggayan with DZAG Radyo Pilipinas Agoo” (03 October); Kapihan sa Ilocos (06 October); Statistical Seminar (19 October), Webinar Data Dissemination and Corporate Social Responsibility (20 October); Regional Statistical Contests that includes Jingle sing and dance contest, Oratorical contest, Statistics quiz, Infographics making contest, and Essay writing contest); and Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) provincial elimination. Moreover, members of the RSC I Technical Working Group (TWG) for the NSM will visit and evaluate the statistical activities of the four provinces in the region vying for the “Best NSM Implementer Province Award.”
The 34th NSM celebration will culminate on 27 October 2023 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The regional champions of various statistical contests as well as the “Best NSM Province Implementer” will be awarded during the ceremony.
Furthermore, certificates of appreciation will be awarded to the sponsors of various NSM activities in recognition of their invaluable support to the success of the NSM celebration.
The NSM was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20,1990 that had declared the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month. lt aims to: (a) promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, and (b) elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. The celebration of the NSM is among the statistical advocacy activities of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) approved by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board.
