Registered live births in the region decreased  

  • The number of registered live births in the Ilocos Region in January 2021 summed up to 5,591 with a decrease of 38 percent from January 2020.  
  • The daily average birth registration in the region for January 2021 was at 180 births, which  was 38 percent lower than the daily average in January 2020.
  • The highest daily average birth registration in January 2021 and January 2020 was recorded in Pangasinan at 113 and 177, respectively.  
  • La Union on the other hand posted the highest decrease on the daily average birth registration of the Ilocos Region with 45 percent. This was followed by Ilocos Sur with a decrease of 38 percent then by Pangasinan with a decrease og 36 percent and lastly, Ilocos Norte with a decrease of 34 percent.

 

Pangasinan highest in terms of registered live births  

  • Pangasinan posted the highest number of registered live births in January 2020 and January 2021 with 8,994 and 5,591 births, respectively. 
  • Pangasinan registered 62 percent of the total registered live births in the region  for January 2021. 
  • La Union followed at 15 percent then Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte at 13 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

Dagupan City tops in registered number of live births

  • Among the cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan had the highest registered live births in the region with 637 births.
  • San Carlos City, Pangasinan followed at 556, then the City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 409 births; San Fernando, La Union with 356, and City of Alaminos, Pangasinan with 306 births.
  • There were 39 municipalities that recorded the lowest registered births ranging from 1 to 5. Of which, five municipalities registered five births each, seven registered four births, nine municipalities with three births each, seven municipalities having two births each and lastly, one birth each for eleven municipalities. 

Males outnumber females in terms of registered live births

  • Males (2,825) outnumbered females (2,766) in terms of registered live births  in January 2021, resulting in a sex ratio of 102 males per 100 females.
  • Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan posted a sex ratio of 107 and 104, respectively, which were higher than the regional ratio.
  • Ilocos Sur and La Union posted a sex ratio of less than one hundred. This indicates that there were more females than males registered in the two provinces.
