The total number of registered live births in Ilocos Region decreased  by 0.7 percent from 7,146 in December 2020 to 7,099 in December 2021. Ilocos Sur and La Union contributed to the overall decrement  of the registered live births in Ilocos Region. 

The province of Pangasinan recorded the highest number of registered live births in December 2020 and 2021 while Ilocos Norte posted the least number of registered live births in the same period of 2020 and 2021.   

Figure 1 shows Pangasinan contributed 63.0 percent to the region’s registered live births in December 2021. The province registered  4,476 live births, higher by 0.9 percent than the record in December 2020  of 4,436. 

The province of La Union shared 14.5 percent to the total number  of registered live births in December 2021, that is 1,027,  or 14.6 percent lower than the recorded live births in the same period  a year ago of 1,202. 
 
Ilocos Sur which shared 12.0 percent to the total registered  live births of the region in December 2021, posted decrement  by 1.8 percent, from 866 recorded in the same period  of 2020, live births decreased to 850 in 2021. 
 
The province of Ilocos Norte contributed 10.5 percent to the total number of live births in December 2021. Its registration during the period went up by 16.2 percent, from 642 in the same period a year ago to 746 listed live births in December 2021. 

The daily average birth registration in December 2021 in Ilocos Region was at 229 births. This is lower than the average birth registration  in December 2020 of 231 births.

Pangasinan was observed to have the highest average daily births  in December 2020 and December 2021 with 143 births and 144 births, respectively, Ilocos Norte on the other hand posted the least average daily births in the same period of 2020 and 2021 with 21 births and 24 births, respectively. 

Males outnumbered females in terms of registered live births  in December 2021.  This data resulted to a sex ratio of 107  that translates to 107 males in every 100 females.

Pangasinan was noted to have the highest number of registered births  for both male and female among the provinces in Ilocos Region. 

In Figure 2, among the cities and municipalities in Ilocos Region,  Dagupan City, Pangasinan registered the highest number  of total live births in December 2021 with 833 births. It was followed  by San Carlos City, Pangasinan and City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan  with 700 births and 576 births, respectively. The City of San Fernando,  La Union had 442 births while City of Alaminos, Pangasinan recorded  400 births. 

 

 

Note: Data on births presented in this release were obtained  from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102)  that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars  and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices (PSA – PSOs) in Ilocos Region. Information included were births registered in December of 2020 and 2021.
