Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in Ilocos Region. Information included births registered in August 2019 and in August 2020.
Registered live births in the region decreased
- The number of registered live births in Ilocos Region in August 2020 summed up to 6,099 with a decrease of 18 percent from August 2019.
- The daily average birth registration in the region for August 2020 was at 197 births, which was 18 percent lower than the daily average in August 2019.
- Generally, the daily average of birth registration in all provinces decreased from August 2019 to August 2020.
- The highest daily average birth registration in August 2019 and August 2020 was recorded in Pangasinan at 148 and 127, respectively. However, there was a decrease of 14 percent from August 2019 to August 2020.
- Ilocos Sur on the other hand posted a decrease of 29 percent on its daily average followed by La Union at 24 percent and by Ilocos Norte with a decrease of 15 percent.
Pangasinan highest in terms of registered live births
- Pangasinan posted the highest number of registered live births in August 2019 and August 2020 with 4,595 births and 3,944 births, respectively.
- Pangasinan registered 65 percent of the total registered live births in the region for August 2020.
- La Union followed at 13 percent followed by Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur both at 11 percent.
Dagupan City tops in registered number of live births
- Among the cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan had the highest registered live births in the region at 944 births.
- San Carlos City, Pangasinan followed at 650 then City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 438 births; City of San Fernando, La Union with 403 and City of Alaminos, Pangasinan with 379 births.
- There were 37 municipalities that recorded the lowest registered births ranging from 1 to 5. Of which, four municipalities registered five births each, four births for one municipality, another eleven municipalities with three births each, eleven municipalities having two births each and lastly, one birth each for ten municipalities.
Males outnumber females in terms of registered live births
- Males (3,152) outnumbered females (2,947) in terms of registered live births in August 2020, resulting to a sex ratio of 107 males per 100 females.
- Ilocos Sur and La Union posted sex ratios of 113 and 112, respectively which were higher than the regional ratio.
- Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte both posted sex ratios less than the regional sex ratio.
