Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar and forwaded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offtces in llocos Region. lnformation included births registercd from March 2019 and March 2020.
 
 
Live births in the region mostly attended by physicians
  • llocos Region registered a total of 5,460 births for March 2020.
  • There were 4,329 total registered live births that were attended by medical practitioners, who may either be a physician, a nurse, or a midwife.
  • Physicians topped the list of attendants at birth with 3,525 registered live births.
  • Midwives attended to 684 registered live births in the region while nurses only attended to 120 registered live births.
La Union: highest percentage of birth deliveries attended by health professionals
  • La Union had the highest percentage of birth deliveries attended by health professionals with 85 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • Pangasinan followed with 82 percent, Ilocos Norte with 75 percent and llocos Sur with 65 percent.
  • Of the total 4,329 registered live births that were attended by medical practitioners in the region, Pangasinan had the most registered live births at 62 percent or with 2,703.
  • La Union followed at 661 registered live births or 15 percent then by Ilocos Sur with 487 or at 11 percent and Ilocos Norte at 478 or at 11 percent.

More than one thousand births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives
  • There were 1,094 registered live births in the region this March 2020 who were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives.
  • Ilocos Sur registered 263 live births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives. That is 35 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • Ilocos Norte had 161 registered live births ot 25 percent attended at birth by unlicensed midwives on March 2020.
  • Pangasinan registered 560 live births (17 percent) who were attended by unlicensed midwives.
  • La Union had 14 percent or 110 registered live births attended by unlicensed midwives on March 2020.

Most parents belong to the age group 25 to 29
  • The registered live births in the region were mostly born to parents who were aged 25 to 29 years old. The highest proportion of fathers and mother belonged to age group 25 to 29 years (25 percent and 26 percent, respectively).
  • The region registered a total of 529 live births who were born to a teenager mother.
  • The median age of mothers was 28 years old. This means that half the number of mothers was younger than 28 years old and half was older than 28 years old
  • The median age of fathers was 26 years old. This means that half the number of fathers was younger than 26 years old and half was older than 26 years old

More than half of live births in the region were registered illegitimate
  • More than half (51 percent) or 2,805 of the total registered live births in March 2020 were born illegitimate. This was 3 percent higher than those born legitimate, with 2,655 children.
  • Mothers at the age group 20 to 24 recorded the highest number of born illegitimate with 799 births or 29 percent. lt was followed by age group 25 to 29 with 643 births and age group under 20 with 448 births.
  • Meanwhile, mothers at age group 25 to29 recorded the highest numberof born legitimate with 758 children followed by age group of 30 to 34 with 654 children and age group 20 to 24 with 506 children.
