Live births in the region mostly attended by physicians

  • llocos Region registered a total of 20,925 births for the first quarter of 2020.
  • Out of the total registered births in the region for the first quarter of 2020, 17,576 live births were attended by medical practitioners, who may either be a physician, a nurse, or a midwife.
  • Physicians topped the list of attendants at birth with 14,777 registered live births.
  • Midwives attended to 2,632 registered live births in the region while nurses only attended to 167 registered live births.

Almost 90 percent of the registered births in La Union were attended at birth by health professionals

  • La Union had the highest percentage of birth deliveries tended by health professionals with 89 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • There were 11,016 registered births (85 percent) attended at birth by health professionals this first quarter of 2020.
  • ln llocos Norte, there were 1,669 registered live births (81 percent) attended at birth by health professionals.
  • Health professionals in llocos Sur attended to 76 percent of the total live births in the province.

More than three thousand births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives

  • There were 3,289 registered live births in the region this first quarter of 2020 who were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives.
  • llocos Norte registered 409 live births attended at birth by unlicensed midwives. That is 20 percent of the total registered live births in the province.
  • Twenty-four percent of the total registered live births in llocos Sur were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives this first quarter.
  • La Union registered 352 live births (11 percent) in the province this quarter who were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives.
  • Fifteen percent of the total registered live births in Pangasinan were attended at birth by unlicensed midwives this first quarter.

Most parents belong to the age group 25 to 29

  • The registered live births in the region were mostly bom to parents who were aged 25lo 29 years old. The highest proportion of fathers and mother belonged to age group 251o29 years (25 percent and 26 percent, respectively).
  • The region registered a total of 1,987 live births who were bom to a teenager mother.
  • The median age of mothers was 27.5 years old. This means that half the number of mothers was younger than 27.5 years old and half was older than 27.5 years old.
  • The median age of fathers was 24.9 years old. This means that half the number of fathers was younger than 24.9 years old and half was older than 24.9 years old.

More than half of live births in the region were registered illegitimate

  • There were 10,978 registered live births in the region who were listed as illegitimate. That is 53 percent of the total registered live births in the region.
  • lllegitimate children were mostly bom to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old.
  • Mothers aged 25 to 29 years old had the highest number of legitimate children at 2,867 who were registered in the region during the first quarter of 2020.
