Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, Ph.D., National Statistician and Civil Registrar General (NSCRG) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), visited the 4th Level Training classes for the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) in La Union on August 24, 2020 and thanked the hired census personnel for accepting the challenge of being part of the census.

“Personally, I would like to thank you for your contribution in this census.  I hope nakapaglumabasnaangmga results, you will be proud naikaw ay isasanagcontribute para makolektaangmgadatosnayan,”  Usec. Mapatold the 2020 CPH 4th Level Training participants in Caba and Aringay, La Union.

The NSCRG also emphasized that the accuracy of the census depends on the data to be collected by the enumerators.  “Dahil kayo ang man and woman on the ground, nakadependeang accuracy ng census naitodoonsamgakokolektahinninyo.”He informed the training

participants that the data will be reported by the PSA next year tentatively during the second quarter.  He also informed them that thedata to be collected will be used by the Local Government Units (LGUs) and the National Government in crafting government plans. 

Moreover, Usec. Mapa also reminded the participants to abide with health and safety protocols in the conduct of the census.   “I understand, although this is a job for you, this is also a sacrifice.  This is difficult and challenging time dahilsa COVID-19 pandemic.  Kasihindiganoonkadaliangtrabaho.  Ire-iterate kolang, while collecting data, let us protect ourselves by following these standards like paghugas ng kamay, use of face mask, face shield, and alcohol,” said Usec. Mapa.  He also advised the participants to maintain physical distancing during interviews. 

The 2020 CPH is being conducted nationwide starting September 1, 2020 amidst the Corona Virus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Hence, census personnel will strictly abide with the health and safety protocols and will closely coordinate with the LGU officials.  They will not proceed to enumerate in lockdown areas or areas with cases of COVID-19 until there is clearance from the LGU officials.

The authority for the conduct of the 2020 CPH emanates primarily from Republic Act (RA) No. 10625, Batas Pambansa (BP) Blg. 72, and Executive Order No. 352. ###
