The month-long celebration of the National Statistics Month (NSM) in Region I culminated on October 27, 2016, through its NSM Regional Closing Ceremony at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, San Fernando City, La Union. The closing ceremony was attended by Deputy Director Marriel M. Remulla of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, who served as the keynote speaker. Along with the closing ceremony was the Regional Jingle Making a contest for the students in the secondary and tertiary levels.
Among the highlights of the closing ceremony was the awarding of the winners of the various NSM Regional Contests which were conducted by the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) 1. One of the most awaited announcements during the event is the winner of the Best 27th NSM Province Implementer. Garnering an average score of 89.3 percent, the province of Pangasinan won the award for the third time in a row after their Hall of Fame Award as Best NSM Province Implementer in 2011. With this, the province of Pangasinan is qualified for another Hall of Fame Award in 2017 provided they meet at least 85% rating in their implementation of the 2017 NSM. The participants from Pangasinan headed by Board Member Jeremy A. Rosario, the chairman of the Pangasinan NSM Steering Committee, received the certificate of recognition and Php 15,000 cash prize from the Regional Development Council 1 and Regional Statistics Committee 1.
Meanwhile, the province of La Union was awarded the Best 27th NSM Province Implementer 1st Runner-up, while Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte were 2nd Runner-up and 3rd Runner-up, respectively. The provinces were evaluated based on the NSM activities initiated in the province and the performance of their provincial representatives to the NSM regional finals.

In 2015, Region 1 was awarded as the Best NSM Region due to its successful conduct of diverse NSM activities that strengthened regional and local coordination and partnership towards the development of statistical activities. This year, with the continued support and active participation of the various Regional Line Agencies, Local Government Units, academic institutions and private sectors, Region 1 had another successful and meaningful celebration of the NSM, creating awareness on the importance of statistics to the stakeholders and fostering cooperation among agencies/institutions towards statistical development in the region.
