The Vital Statistics released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) based on civil registration showed that Ilocos Region registered an increase of 45.3 on the number of registered marriages for the period January to December 2022 as compared to the same period of 2021. This also accounted a daily average of 67 registered marriages in the region during the same period.
On the other hand, figure 2 showed that lowest number of registered marriages for both 2021 and 2022 were recorded in the month of August, while the highest for both years were recorded in December 2022. Meanwhile, the highest percentage increase was recorded in April 2022, with around 79 percent compared to the same month of 2021.
The province of Pangasinan shared the highest at 57.5 percent of the 24,605 total registered marriages in Ilocos Region in 2022. Meanwhile, the province of La Union shared 15.7 percent, followed by Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte at 15.1 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively.
On the number of registered marriages by province, all of the provinces in the region recorded higher registered marriages in 2022 compared to previous year. Figure 4 below showed that the province of Ilocos Norte recorded the highest percentage increase at 63.5 percent compared to the total of registered marriages in 2021.
Meanwhile, the 3,707 registered marriages in Ilocos Sur was 61.2 percent higher compared to previous period. On the other hand, La Union and Pangasinan recorded an increase of 43.3 percent and 39.1 percent, respectively.
Similarly, all the provinces recorded higher average daily registered marriages in 2022. The province of Pangasinan recorded 39 average daily registered marriages, the highest among the four provinces. The average daily registered marriages of La Union also increased from 7 to 11 in 2022. Likewise, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte posted higher average daily registered marriages at 10 and 8, respectively.
