The Vital Statistics released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) based on civil registration showed decline in the number of registered deaths in Ilocos Region for the period January to July 2022 as compared to same period in 2021. Likewise, the average daily registered deaths in the region reached 104 for the period January to July 2022.

For the period January to July, Ilocos Region recorded the highest number of registered deaths in 2021 during the month of July while January recorded the highest in 2022.  Likewise, an increasing number of registered deaths was generally observed in 2021 except for the month of June with 13 percent increase.  On the other hand, during the same periods in 2022, Ilocos Region had a declining number of registered deaths, except for the month of May 2022 with an increase of 11 percent.

Meanwhile, majority  (59%) of the total registered deaths from January to July 2022 was recorded at the province of Pangasinan.  This was followed by La Union which shared 15 percent, while Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte contributed 14% and 12%, respectively, of the total registered deaths in the region during the same period.

Table 1 below showed that similar to the regional data, all of the provinces recorded decline in the number of registered deaths from January to July 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. Pangasinan recorded the highest decline (14%) in the number of registered deaths during this period, while Ilocos Sur recorded the least percentage decline (5%).  

All of the provinces recorded the highest number of registered deaths and a daily average of registered deaths during the month of January 2022. During this month, the daily average registered deaths in Pangasinan was 77 while La Union averaged to 22 registered deaths.  Meanwhile, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte both had 18 daily average of registered deaths in January 2022.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union recorded the least daily average registered deaths during the month of July in 2022 at 12, 13, and 14 registered deaths, respectively.  Meanwhile the province of Pangasinan recorded the least average daily registered deaths during the months of April and July 2022 at 56 registered deaths.
