Region 1 successfully celebrated the 28th National Statistics Month (NSM) on October 2017 with the theme, “FACTS and FIGURES FOR THE FUTURE: Statistics for Evidence-Based Decisions Towards Ambisyon Natin 2040.”
 
The Regional Opening Ceremony was attended by over a hundred fifty participants from various Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs) and academic institutions on October 5, 2017 at the Atrium of CSI Mall, Biday, San Fernando City, La Union.  Hon. Juan Carlo Medina, Chairman of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 1, served as the keynote speaker.  The opening for the Regional Statistics Exhibit at the second floor of the CSI Mall was also conducted on the same day.
 
Meanwhile, the Jingle Singing Contest for students was also conducted as part of the regional opening ceremony.  It was participated by the provincial champions in the secondary and tertiary levels.   
 
On the other hand, the regional contests for essay-writing, oratorical, poster-slogan and statistics quiz were simultaneously conducted on October 19, 2017 at Saint Louis College, San Fernando City, La Union.  Below is the list of champions for the NSM regional contests:

The Regional Closing Ceremony was held on October 26, 2017 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, La Union Regional Office, San Fernando City, La Union.  The awarding for the Search for Best 28th NSM Province highlighted the event.

The province of Pangasinan was awarded its second Hall of Fame as Best NSM Province Implementer.  Board Member Noel Bince, also the Chairman of the Pangasinan NSM Steering Committee, received the award in behalf of Governor Amado I. Espino, III. 

On the other hand, the province of La Union got the Best 28th NSM Province Implementer award for successfully implementing diversified NSM activities which elicited cooperation and participation among various stakeholders in the province and portrayed good image to the province.

The successful celebration of the 28th NSM in the region is attributed to the support of various stakeholders in the region through the initiative of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) 1.  The realization of NSM activities and its objectives were also made possible by the benevolence of  sponsor agencies and institutions namely: National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI), Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Agriculture (DA) and CSI Mall.
