As of 28 February 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office recorded a total of 627,169 Filipinos who successfully completed their Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 registration.
The table below shows the number of registered applicants for the PhilSys Step 2 Registration by city/municipality.
Step 2 is one of the three steps of PhilSys registration that involves the validation of supporting documents, and capturing of biometric information that includes iris scan, fingerprints and front-facing photograph. Step 1 registration is the gathering of demographic information such as a person’s name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, blood type, address, and marital status while Step 3 is the delivery of the physical card by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost).
Republic Act (RA) No. 11055, otherwise known as PhilSys Act, aims to establish a single national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens of the Republic of the Philippines. As a foundational digital ID system, the PhilSys will transform how services are delivered and accessed in the Philippines and accelerate our transition to a digital economy, including to enable presenceless, paperless and cashless transactions. The PhilSys ID is intended to provide a person with a valid proof of identity. The core function of the PhilSys is identity authentication and any process such as downloading of benefits and identification for government aids remain fully with the implementing agency.
All government agencies and private establishments are mandated to accept the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card and PhilSys Number (PSN) as sufficient proof of identity and age in all government and private transactions as provided under Executive Order No. 162.
