PSA-La Union registered a total of 562,629 Filipinos in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 registration as of March 31, 2022 in La Union that includes the capture of biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and front facing photographs.

Since the resumption of PhilSys this year in the province, PSA-La Union implemented various strategies to cover more registrants and bring the PhilSys registration closer to the residents through mobile registration in their respective barangays and institutional registration in various government agencies, private sector, and the academe.  Amidst the changes in quarantine restrictions, PhilSys registration continues to operate in the province in compliance with the health and safety protocols laid down by the Local Government Units (LGUs) such as physical distancing, wearing of face mask, and regular sanitation.

As of March 31, 2022, a total of 190,792 PhilIDs were already delivered to successful Step 2 registrants while there were 4,916 PhilIDs with on-going delivery status.

Meanwhile, Malacañang released Executive Order (EO) No. 162, mandating all government offices and private establishments to accept the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card and PhilSys Serial Number (PSN) as sufficient proof of identity and age in transactions.  The said executive order, signed on 14 February 2022, directs all covered agencies to amend their respective citizen’s charters, particularly their identification requirements, and to integrate the PhilSys components and accommodate its features.  Moreover, private and public financial institutions, including banks and owners of digital payment applications, are called to comply with the relevant issuances of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and other government regulatory agencies on the use of the PhilID and PSN.
