The Philippine Statistics Authority La Union Provincial Statistical Office is targeting to push through the conduct of the 2020 Census Population and Housing (CPH) on September 1, 2020. The field operation for the 2020 CPH is originally scheduled on May 4, 2020 but due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the country the enumeration has been postponed.

The 2020 CPH is a nationwide government undertaking that involves the collection, compilation, evaluation, analysis, publication and dissemination of data on population and dissemination of data on population count, demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population, housing characteristics, and barangay characteristics. The Census aims to provide government executives, policy makers, and planners with population and housing data on which to base their social and economic development plans policies, and programs.

The PSA official announced that public school teachers will be utilized for the 2020 CPH as prescribed by Batas Pambansa Bldg. 72. However, due to the above-mentioned COVID-19 crisis and the scheduled opening of classes on August 24, 2020, DepEd personnel will not be able to serve as CPH personnel. Thus PSA-La Union will be utilizing a total of 876 hired personnel from various city/municipalities to serve as Census Area Supervisors (33), Team Supervisors, (141) and Enumerators (702).  In addition, PSA-La Union will hire 67 reserved enumerators.

PSA reassures the public that the data provided to the Census is for statistical purposes only. Information obtained from the respondents shall be accorded STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL as provided under RA 10625. Data gathered from the census will be published in a summary of forms without reference to any individual person or household.

Furthermore, PSA would like to advise the public that the September 1 2020 CPH enumeration schedule is for further update and confirmation until the CONVID-19 pandemic is effectively under control. If the census operation will step forward, all PSA personnel would adhere to the “new normal” which include strict observance of social distancing measures, wearing of face mask/shield, and proper hygiene and sanitation.
