The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-La Union Provincial Statistical Office gave recognition to its outstanding stakeholders on 15 December 2023 at J&V Hotel and Resort, Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The event which is in line with the PSA’s 10th year anniversary, aimed to recognize the invaluable contribution of PSA’s partners who have been instrumental in the success of PSA programs and activities. It was attended by officials and representatives from National Government Agencies (NGAs), Provincial Line Agencies (PLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), academe, media, and the private sector.

The event commenced with the opening remarks of Dr. Danites E. Teñido, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-La Union. Dr. Teñido extended her gratitude to PSA partners and acknowledged their crucial role in providing assistance and dedicated efforts that enabled the organization to gather and generate essential data as input to policymaking and program planning for the betterment of the lives of fellow Filipinos.

A data dissemination on fisheries statistics and updating on Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) and Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) accomplishments in the province were also conducted during the event. 

Ms. Mariela F. Casino, Assistant Statistician (AS), presented the fisheries statistics in La Union for the 3rd quarter of 2023. Ms. Casiño reported that the province’s total volume of fisheries production in the 3rd quarter of 2023 was recorded at 1,340.12 metric tons, a decrease of 26.71 percent from the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, Dr. Teñido informed the participants that as of 30 November 2023, a total of 651,908 Filipinos five years old and over had already completed the PhilSys Step 2 Registration in the province since its first implementation in the 1st quarter of 2021. In addition, she said that a total of 469,967 Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards were successfully delivered by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) as of 31 August 2023 and a total of 176,015 electronic PhilID cards (ePhilIDs) were issued by the PhilSys team to registered persons with PhilSys Numbers (PSNs). On the BRAP, Engr. Leny Grace S. Balanon, Statistical Specialist II (SS II), provided information on the BRAP updates. The BRAP is a national initiative spearheaded by the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General (NSCRG) to fulfill our country’s commitment to the 2015 to 2024 Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Decade with the aim that by 2024, at least 99.5 percent of all Filipinos should have their birth registered with the local authorities and will be provided with the legal documentation through the issuance of the birth certificate. The project also aims to strengthen the documentation of PhilSys Step 2 registration by increasing the use of the birth certificate as the basic document to be presented by citizens seeking to register with PhilSys. Engr. Balanon reported that in La Union, a total of 430 registrants have successfully completed the PBRAP registration with a birth certificate printed on Security Paper (SecPa) since its first implementation in the 1st quarter of 2022.

Moreover, PSA-La Union’s accomplishments were also presented through an audio-visual presentation showcasing the different activities of the province that were all successfully undertaken through collaborative efforts with partners from the NGAs, PLAs, LGUs, academe, media, and the private sector.

Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman, PSA-Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I) Regional Director, graced the event and provided a message to the stakeholders before the awarding of the outstanding stakeholders. The awardees included outstanding respondents from the LGU and PLA, sample business establishment and household; outstanding partner in civil registration; outstanding partners in statistical planning, policy, and coordination; outstanding LGU partner in PhilSys; and outstanding media advocate for PSA activities.

The event concluded with the closing remarks delivered by Mr. Artemio A. Alibayan, SS II of PSA – La Union. Mr. Alibayan thanked the awardees and participants for their efforts and contributions to the ten-year milestone of the PSA. He also reiterated PSA’s commitment to continuously collaborate with them for the betterment of the community and the nation.
