The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office progressively registers all Filipinos in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as it continuously implements the PhilSys Step 2 Registration Phase 2.

In La Union, a total of 392,115 registrants already completed the PhilSys Step 1 and Step 2 Registration as of August 31, 2021. Step 1 registration is the collection of demographic information which was done house-to-house from October 2020 to April 2021, and through online registration starting on June 1, 2021 in selected Registration Centers in La Union. Step 2 Registration involves the validation of supporting documents, and capturing of biometric information that include iris scan, fingerprints and front-facing photograph.  After completion of Step 1 and Step 2, the registrant will wait for the final Step of PhilSys which is Step 3 that involves the issuance of PhilSys Number (PSN), a unique, permanent identification number, and the physical identification card called the Philippine Identification Card (PhilID).

The PSN is a randomly-generated number that will serve as a permanent identification number of a registrant. Considered as sensitive personal information, the PSN must be kept confidential and private. When transacting, registrants must use the public version of the PSN – the PhilSys Card Number (PCN), which is also printed in the PhilID card.

For the issuance of the PhilID, PSA has partnered with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), the official delivery partner of PhilSys, to ensure smooth and safe delivery of the PhilIDs to the registrants. As of the end of August 2021, a total of 49,441 PhilIDs were already delivered to PhiIID card holders in the province.
