The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) headed by Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Danites E. Teṅido, Ph.D. conducted an on-site training on Data Processing: Data Tabulation and Analysis Using Descriptive Statistics, Module II-B of the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) on January 23 to 27, 2023 at the Municipal Hall of San Gabriel, La Union.

The five-day activity was attended by representatives from the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Office of the Mayor (OM) and, Municipal Health Office (MHO).

The municipality of San Gabriel was one of the nine Local Government Units (LGUs) nationwide that participated in the 2021 pilot implementation of the CBMS.  As stated in Section 6 of Republic Act No. 11315 otherwise known as the CBMS Act, cities and municipalities shall be capacitated in the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of CBMS data at the local level through the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) in collaboration with state universities and colleges and in coordination with other agencies.

Module II-B of the CBMS aims to develop the skills of the LGU personnel in designing and developing tabulations using Census and Survey Processing System (CSPro) and Microsoft Excel and to meet the needs of participants in the generation of various types of tabulations from the CBMS.  Furthermore, the module is primarily developed to capacitate the LGU staff as the primary users of CBMS data, in order to develop their technical skills in generating statistics and tabulations from the Household Profile Questionnaire (HPQ) and Barangay Profile Questionnaire (BPQ) using appropriate software.

Lecturers during the training were: Statistical Specialist II (SS II) Lea T. Chavez and Statistical Specialist I (SS I) Keziah D. Odtujan both from the Community-Based Statistics Division and Statistical Analyst (SA) Ian Benedict L. Del Prado from the Geospatial Management Division; Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) Teresa B. Olarte from the Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I); and Senior Statistical Specialist (SrSS) Marieta P. Rivera, SS II Engr. Leny Grace S. Balanon, Registration Officer I (RO I) Engr. Mart Marciano Antonn A. Aromin, and Information Systems Analyst I (ISA I) April Joy Monis from La Union PSO.  CSS Juanito Y. Yabes from the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division also visited during the training and delivered an inspirational message.

Participants in the said training had a workshop after each topic was discussed.  Their outputs were presented during the last day of the training.
