The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducts the December 2022 monthly round of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) on December 8 to 28, 2022 in randomly selected housing units in sample enumeration areas located in six city/municipalities of La Union.

The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. It provides information as a basis for the formulation of policies and programs on creating and generating gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reducing unemployment and underemployment, and enhancing the welfare of a working person.

Recognizing the importance of high-frequency statistical information on the Philippine labor market during a health crisis, the PSA Board approved the PSA Board Resolution No. 8 Series of 2020, Approval of the Conduct of the Monthly LFS and Generation of Monthly Labor and Employment Statistics on December 21, 2020.  Starting February 2021, the monthly LFS was conducted between quarterly or regular LFS to generate national level labor and employment statistics from the survey.

PSA-La Union hired two Statistical Researchers (SRs) to conduct interviews with at least 104 sample households through a Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) approach using tablets. The PSA assures the respondents that all hired SRs are in good health condition and will observe the minimum health and safety protocols during enumeration to protect themselves and the respondents from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The PSA again enjoins the support of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and cooperation of sample households by providing truthful and complete information to the SRs.  The data to be collected in the survey shall be covered by the confidentiality of information clause under Section 26 of Republic Act (RA) 10625, which stipulates that “individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses of the PSA shall be considered privileged communication and as such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding” and Section 19 of RA 10173 which states that “personal information shall be held under strict confidentiality and shall be used only for the declared purpose.” ###
