The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office implements the May 2021 Labor Force Survey (LFS) on May 8 to 29, 2021 with rider questions related to Republic Act No. 11055, otherwise known as Philippine Identification System Act.

The monthly LFS is a nationwide survey of households conducted by the PSA that aims to provide high frequency statistical information on the Philippine labor market to better monitor and understand the current job situation and economy in the Philippines as well as the impact of the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) health crisis. Results of the monthly LFS serve as basis for planning, formulation of policies, and implementing programs to create gainful employment and bolster livelihood opportunities for the Filipinos particularly those who were adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

The monthly LFS is an abridged version of the quarterly LFS.   It includes core questions of the regular LFS with additional questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic to generate the core labor and employment indicators including relevant indicators for the COVID-19 recovery program.

The May 2021 LFS will use one replicate of the April 2021 LFS from the 2013 Master Sample for household-based surveys of the PSA, or about 10,700 sample housing units nationwide deemed sufficient to provide reliable estimates at the national level.   In La Union, a total of 98 sample households in six selected barangays will be enumerated by six hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) using the Computer Aided Data Collection System (CADaCS) under the supervision of the Chief Statistical Specialist and the LFS Provincial Focal Person.

As a safety measure against COVID-19, face-to-face or telephone interview shall be adopted by the hired SRs, whichever is feasible, and according to the respondent’s choice.

The PSA assures the public that all personnel involved in this undertaking are in good health condition and will strictly follow minimum public health and safety standards against the COVID-19 during all phases of the field operations.  They shall likewise observe all protocols laid down by the Local Government Units (LGUs).

The PSA appeals for the support of the LGUs and cooperation of sample households in this endeavor by providing truthful, complete and accurate information to the SRs.  All data obtained will be held strictly confidential as stipulated in Section 26 of RA 10625 and Section 8 of RA 10173 or the Data Privacy Act.
