The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-La Union Provincial Statistical Office will conduct the monthly Labor Force Survey (LFS) April 2024 round from 08 to 30 April 2024 in enumeration areas located in 12 city/municipalities in La Union.
The LFS is a nationwide survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. Data from the survey provides information on major labor market trends such as labor force participation and unemployment rates, hours worked, past industries, and occupations of currently unemployed persons.
For this survey round, questions on tourism and unpaid work were included. Tourism is a significant source of job creation, offering opportunities to people of all backgrounds. In 2022, tourism industries in the Philippines accounted for 11.4 percent of the country’s total employment or employing 5.3 million Filipinos. With its economic impact, there is a growing need for more detailed information on tourism employment. This rider question seeks to expand the information gathered on tourism employment as reported to the Philippine Tourism Satellite Accounts (PTSA). On the other hand, unpaid care and domestic work are increasingly acknowledged as crucial issues for sustainable development. These are identified as one of the targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly under SGD 5 – “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” This rider question aims to provide statistical information on the equal redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work between women and men in households.
PSA-La Union is currently engaged in training sessions for its six hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) to equip them with the necessary skills to effectively carry out all aspects of their roles in survey implementation. Through this training, the SRs are expected to gain practical experience and develop the expertise needed to contribute significantly to the success of the survey.
In La Union, the hired SRs will visit a total of 357 sample households through the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) approach using tablets.
The success of these surveys highly depends on the quality of the data that will be collected. Hence, PSA-La Union encourages the sample households to participate in the survey by providing truthful and complete data. Respondents are assured that all gathered information will be held with the utmost confidentiality pursuant to Section 19 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10173, otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and Section 26 of RA 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.
