With the aim to generate data on volume and value of production on fisheries and aquaculture by aqua farm type, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducts the 3rd Quarter 2021 Fisheries Survey that includes the Quarterly Commercial Fisheries Survey (QCFS), Quarterly Municipal Fisheries Survey (QMFS), Quarterly Inland Municipal Survey (QIFS), and Quarterly Aquaculture Survey (QAqS) on September 20 -24, 2021.
The statistics that will be generated through these surveys will serve as input in the compilation of national accounts, estimation of performance of agriculture, researches and studies, policy making, and program implementation. This will also serve as guide in the development of appropriate policy measures and support programs to help fisher folks cope with the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis and continue their fishing activities and livelihood.
PSA-La Union hired six Statistical Researchers (SRs) to visit the fish landing centers for commercial and municipal fisheries along with the selected sample aqua farm operators and inland fishing households to generate fisheries outputs in coordination with the Local Government Units (LGUs).
Meanwhile, the key results for the 2nd Quarter 2021 Fisheries Surveys in La Union are as follows:
- La Union’s total volume of fisheries production in 2nd quarter 2021 was recorded at 4,632.30 metric tons, an increase of 12.32 percent from the 4,124.28 metric tons production in 2nd quarter 2020.
- The volume of production from commercial fisheries was posted at 269.36 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2021. It went up by 8.68 percent compared with its level in the same period a year ago of 247.85 metric tons.
- The total municipal fisheries production in La Union increased by 4.10 percent from the estimated production of 683.93 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2020 to 711.94 metric tons in the same quarter of 2021.
- The aquaculture production in La Union was posted at 3,651.00 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2021. This translated to an increase of 14.36 percent from the 3,192.50 metric tons production in 2nd quarter 2020.
- The volume of production from commercial fisheries was posted at 269.36 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2021. It went up by 8.68 percent compared with its level in the same period a year ago of 247.85 metric tons.
- The total value of all fisheries production in La Union in 2nd quarter 2021 was PhP624,110.57. This is 16.48 percent higher than its value in the same quarter a year ago of PhP535,822.97.
All the data and information collected by the SRs from sample fishermen are for statistical purposes only and shall not be used for purposes of taxation or investigation. Information obtained from the respondents shall be accorded strictly confidential as provided under Republic Act (RA) 10625. Hence, the PSA enjoins the support of the LGUs and cooperation of sample fishermen in providing truthful, complete and accurate information to the SRs.
Furthermore, the PSA assures the respondents that all hired SRs abides with the health and safety protocols laid down by the LGUs to ensure the safety of all concerned during the field operation.
