The search for the country’s young statistics whizzes was back two years since the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic started!

 

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducted the 26th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) provincial elimination on November 8, 2022, at Hotel Ariana, Paringao, Bauang, La Union.

 

After three rounds of the quiz, Ms. Jade Krishna M. Amper, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics student from the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University– South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC), bagged the first place.  Mr. Raynell Vick F. Abuan, a BS in Computer Science student also from DMMMSU-SLUC, landed second place.  Ms. Shenaicah Liezel P. Arzadon, a BS in Secondary Education Math student from DMMMSU – North La Union Campus (NLUC) placed third.  Ms. Amper and Mr. Abuan were both mentored by Mr. Nialle Loui Mar T. Alcantara while Ms. Arzadon was coached by Ms. May Ann Rose E. Montemayor.

 

The provincial winners represented the province in the simultaneous Regional Championship held on November 14, 2022 at J & V Hotel and Resort, City of San Fernando, La Union.

 

PSA – La Union congratulates the winners and their respective coaches and expressed gratitude to the participating schools.

 

The PSQ is a nationwide annual contest organized by the PSA and the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) that is designed to test the knowledge in statistics of first-time college freshman students enrolled in colleges and universities in the 17 regions of the country. 

 

The PSQ aims to: (1) assess the competency and skills of students in statistics as acquired from the secondary education curriculum; (2) promote, enhance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of science, Statistics in particular, among the students; and (3) generate public awareness on the importance of Statistics in all development-planning activities and win overall support for all government statistical activities.
