The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT), conducts the national survey on the 2022 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV) from October 17 to November 18, 2022.

A Memorandum of Agreement for the 2022 HSDV in the Philippines signed by the PSA and DOT in March 2022 and PSA Board Resolution No. 05 Series of 2021, “Approving the regular conduct of the HSDV” serve as the legal basis for the activity.

The 2022 HSDV is the sixth in a series of surveys on domestic visitors in the country since 2005. It primarily aims to gather household-based data on domestic tourism that are vital to the effective and efficient development and implementation of tourism plans and programs. Specifically, it aims to measure the volume of domestic and international visitors; determine the profile and travel characteristics of domestic and outbound visitors; identify travel patterns of the household members 15 years old and over; estimate the extent of and economic contribution of domestic and international visitors in the country; and gather indicators to measure the impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the tourism industry.

For this survey, PSA-La Union hired two Statistical Researchers (SRs) to interview 96 sample households located in five different city/municipalities in La Union through the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) approach using tablets. The SRs will abide with the health and safety protocols set by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Local Government Units (LGUs) during the field operation to protect themselves and the respondents from COVID-19.

PSA-La Union enjoins the support of the LGUs in the implementation of the 2022 HSDV and cooperation of the sample households by providing complete and truthful data.  The PSA assures that all information that will be gathered will be treated strictly confidential as stipulated in Section 26 of Republic Act No. 10625.
