The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office carries out the fourth quarter round of the Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) from 01 – 13 October 2021 in partnership with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The quarterly CES is a household-based survey on consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country.
It is a complementary survey to the Business Expectations Survey (BES) of the BSP. The PSA undertakes the data collection while the BSP conducts the generation of tables and analysis of the results.

A total of four barangays consisting 65 sample households in the province will be visited/enumerated by two hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) using the Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) under the supervision of Chief Statistical Specialist Danites E. Teñido, Ph.D. and Statistical Analyst Karl Joseph G. Hufana, Provincial Focal Person.

The goal of the CES is to measure consumers’ sentiments on family financial situation and family income, and economic condition of the country. Moreover, the survey has a significant role in guiding planners in forecasting the direction of change of the economy as well as the behavior of key indicators such as inflation rate, interest rates and exchange rates.

The PSA enjoins the support of the Local Government Units (LGUs) and cooperation of sample households in providing truthful, complete, and accurate information to the SRs.  Like any other surveys undertaken by the PSA, data collected from the survey are for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms.

Furthermore, the PSA assures the public that all hired SRs will strictly observe minimum public health and safety standards against COVID-19 to ensure the safety of all concerned during the field operation.
