The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office conducts the 2nd Quarter 2022 Palay Production Survey (PPS) and Corn Production Survey (CPS) and the monthly Rice and Corn Stocks Survey: Household (RCSS:H) or formerly known as Palay and Corn Stocks Survey (PCSS) on July 1-10, 2022.
The PPS and CPS are two national quarterly surveys which are conducted simultaneously. The PPS and CPS aim to generate estimates on palay and corn production, area harvested, yield and other production-related data. On the other hand, the RCSS: H is designed to assess the current rice and corn inventories in sample households across the country. Data collected from these surveys will support and guide the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers, and other stakeholders especially palay and corn farmers.
Results of the 1st Quarter 2022 PPS showed that:
-
The volume of palay production in La Union in 1st quarter 2022 recorded at 26,635.00 metric tons was 5.10 percent higher than the volume of palay production in the province in the same period of 2021 at 25,343.00 metric tons;
-
The area harvested for palay in the province increased by 1.21 percent from 5,629.00 hectares in 1st quarter 2021 to 5,697.24 hectares in 1st quarter 2022; and
-
The yield per hectare also went up by 3.84 percent from 4.50 metric tons per hectare in 1st quarter 2021 to 4.68 metric tons per hectare in 1st quarter 2022.
For the 1st Quarter 2022 CPS in La Union, the key results are as follows:
-
The volume of corn production in La Union increased by 7.10 percent in 1st quarter 2022 at 25,136.09 metric tons from 23,470.00 metric tons in 1st quarter 2021;
-
The area harvested for corn expanded by 5.54 percent from 4,082.00 hectares in 1st quarter 2021 to 4, 308.00 hectares in 1st quarter 2022; and
-
The yield per hectare went up by 1.48 percent from 5.75 metric tons per hectare in 1st quarter 2021 to 5.83 metric tons per hectare in 1st quarter 2022.
PSA-La Union hired and trained 15 Statistical Researchers (SRs) who will visit 280 sample palay farming households for PPS; 356 sample corn farming households for CPS; and 120 sample palay farming households, 40 sample corn farming households, and 80 sample non-farming households for RCSS: H in various sample barangays in the province. All hired SRs are in good health condition and will abide with the health and safety protocols laid down by the Local Government Units (LGUs) to ensure the safety of all concerned during the field operation.
The PSA enjoins the support of the LGUs and cooperation of sample households in providing truthful, complete and accurate information to the SRs. All the data and information collected by the SRs from sample households are for statistical purposes only and shall not be used for purposes of taxation or investigation as provided under Republic Act (RA) 10625.
