The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – La Union Provincial Statistical Office in collaboration with the La Union Civil Registrars Association (LUCRA) join the entire nation in the celebration of the 31st Civil Registration Month (CRM) with the theme: “Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Digital Information: The Ways to Manage the New Normal."

 

The annual observance is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 682 “Declaring the Month of February of Every Year as Civil Registration Month” dated January 28, 1991 and signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino. 

 

PSA-La Union organized a motorcade in the City of San Fernando, La Union on February 1, 2021 to jumpstart the month-long celebration.  The motorcade was participated by PSA-La Union and Regional Statistical Services Office I (RSSO I) personnel. 

 

On February 2, 2021, PSA-La Union, together with the LUCRA, attended a Thanksgiving Mass followed by the 31st CRM Opening Ceremony at San Juan Gymnasium, San Juan, La Union.   Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of PSA-RSSO I, graced the event and gave a message to the participants.  In her message, she informed the participants that the PSA manage to deliver amidst the pandemic, making its processes more convenient and safe for its clients.  

 

Moreover, PSA-La Union also conducted a symposium to discuss issues and concerns on civil registry documents.  Dr. Danites E. Teñido, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-La Union, presented on “Concerns on Civil Registry Documents as Requirement for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).”  Meanwhile, Joseph E. Estoesta, Outlet Supervisor of the CRS - Serbilis Outlet at PSA-RSSO I, discussed on “Processing of Annotated Civil Registry Documents under the Decentralized Copy Annotation Project (DeCAP).”  An open forum followed after the presentation of the resource persons.

 

PSA-La Union and the LUCRA lined up various activities for the month-long celebration that include hanging of streamer, posting of CRM banner on the FB accounts of the Local Civil Registrars (LCRs), radio interview, Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) information dissemination, on-site and digital exhibit, tree planting, charitable activities, free issuance of certification by Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs), mass wedding in selected municipalities,  training on Basic Statistics and Infographics, Civil Registration Lecture Series, Church Ocular Inspection, CRM Quiz, 1st CRM Infographics Contest, and awarding of Top Performing LCROs.

 

The observance of Civil Registration Month aims to remind the public of their duty to register acts and events concerning the status of persons; enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents; and emphasize its importance in national development planning.
