As part of the mandate of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) under Republic Act 10625 to prepare and conduct statistical sample surveys on all aspects of socioeconomic life, PSA conducts its January 2016 Labor Force Survey {LFS). For this round, the LFS has a rider survey which is the 2015 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) - 2nd visit. The enumeration runs from January 11, 2016 to January 31, 2016.
 
The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. The LFS is designed to collect information on the following: (a) distribution of household population 15 years old and over, by employment status, by sex and age group; (b) distribution of employed persons by major occupation group, major industry group, class of worker, number of hours worked, highest grade completed, nature of employment, and by sex; (c) distribution of underemployed persons by total hours worked, by major occupation group, class of worker, and by sex; and ( d) distribution of unemployed persons by age group, highest grade completed, by number of weeks looking for work, job search method, and by sex.
 
LFS is important in providing information as basis for the formulation of policies and programs on the creation and generation of gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reduction of unemployment and underemployment, and enhancement of the welfare of working person. It also helps in the assessment of the potential human resource available for economic development.
 
The data collected under LFS shall be covered by law on the confidentiality of information. Section 26 of RA 10625 stipulates that individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys and censuses of the PSA shall be considered privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding. The PSA releases data gathered in the form of summaries of statistical tables, in which no reference to individual, corporation, association, partnership, institution or business enterprise shall appear. The PSA solicits the support of the household-respondents and barangay officials of sample enumeration areas for the successful conduct and timely completion of the LFS.
