The palay production in the Ilocos Region increased by 3.31 percent in 2022. From the output of 1,902,343 metric tons in 2021, it went up to 1,965,372 metric tons in 2022. Ilocos Region ranked fourth in terms of volume of production among the regions in the country in 2022 with 9.95 percent share. La Union and Pangasinan contributed to the region’s increment of palay production in 2022, while Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur experienced contraction.

In terms of yield per hectare, Ilocos Region ranked second among the regions in the country. The yield per hectare marked at 4.82 metric tons, higher than the 4.65 metric tons recorded in 2021However, the harvest area of the region scaled down from 409,035 hectares to 407,408 hectares.

The province of Pangasinan has the biggest share to the total palay production of Ilocos Region in 2022 of 62.02 percent. The output of the province registered at 1,218,933 metric tons, higher than the record of 1,162,636 metric tons in 2021. The yield per hectare during the period reached 4.77 metric tons from 4.57 metric tons in 2021. Moreover, the harvest area increased by 0.40 percent from 254,377 hectares in 2021 to 255,407 hectares in 2022.

The province of Ilocos Norte ranked second in terms of volume of palay production in the region in 2022 with 16.83 percent. The output reached to 330,749 metric tons, or 1.91 percent lower than the output in 2021 of 337,192 metric tons. The harvest area declined by 2.90 percent from 65,819 hectares to 63,909. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare went up from 5.12 metric tons to 5.18 metric tons.

Ilocos Sur recorded 244,414 metric tons palay production in 2022The output is lower than the production in 2021 of 244,634 metric tons.  
The harvest area decreased by 1.62 percent from 50,486 hectares in 202to 49,668 hectares in 2022. The yield per hectare, however, increased from 4.85 metric tons to 4.92 metric tons. The province shared 12.44 percent to the total palay production of Ilocos Region in 2022.

The province of La Union shared 8.71 percent to the total palay production in the region in 2022. The palay output of the province went up by 8.48 percent from 157,881 metric tons in 2021 to 171,277 metric tons in 2022. The harvest area also increased from 38,353 hectares to 38,424 hectares. Likewise, the yield per hectare increased by 8.28 percent from 4.12 metric tons in 2021 to 4.46 metric tons in 2022.
