The volume of palay production in the Ilocos Region registered lower growth in 4^th quarter 2021 compared to its level a year ago.  The production recorded at 1,215,833 metric tons, or 0.24 percent  lower than the 1,218,758 metric tons output in 4^th quarter 2020.  About 59.37 percent were irrigated and the rest were rainfed.  The Ilocos Region ranked second accounted to 16.41 percent of the total palay production of the country in 4^th quarter 2021. 

As to the harvest area, the region recorded an increase of 0.03 percent  or 267,268 hectares from the 267,196 hectares in 4^th quarter 2020. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare slightly decreased from 4.56 metric tons  to 4.55 metric tons. 

All the provinces of the region, except Pangasinan, posted lower volume  of palay production in 4^th quarter 2021.  

Pangasinan has the bulk of palay production among the provinces, contributing 58.77 percent of the total output of the region  in 4^th quarter 2021. The province posted a production  of 714,586 metric tons during the period, higher than the output  in 4^th quarter 2020 of 703,188 metric tons. The area harvested was noted to slightly decreased by 0.04 from 160,340 hectares in 4^th quarter 2020 to 160,279 hectares in the same period of 2021. Moreover, the yield  per hectare improved from 4.39 metric tons in 4^th quarter 2020  to 4.46 metric tons in 4^th quarter 2021.

The province of Ilocos Norte, which shared 17.71 percent to the total  palay production of the Ilocos Region in 4^th quarter 2021,  recorded 215,279 metric tons output. This is 0.39 percent lower than  the production of 216,116 metric tons in 4^th quarter 2020. The harvest area during the period, however, went up from 41,797 hectares to 42,157 hectares. The yield per hectare declined from 5.17 metric tons  to 5.11 metric tons.

The volume of palay production in Ilocos Sur registered 0.50 percent decrease compared to its output in 4^th quarter 2020. The recorded  palay produce of the province in 4^th quarter 2021 is 175,623 metric tons.  The harvest area decreased from 37,180 hectares to 37,137 hectares during the period. Moreover, the yield per hectare also went down  from 4.75 metric tons in 4^th quarter 2020 to 4.73 metric tons  in 4^th quarter 2021. 

The province of La Union, which shared 9.08 percent to the total  palay production of the Ilocos Region in 4^th quarter 2021,  recorded 110,345 metric tons during the period. The output was lower  by 10.26 percent from the 122,957 metric tons record in 4^th quarter 2020. The harvest area decreased from 27,879 hectares to 27,695 hectares. The yield per hectare also declined from 4.41 metric tons  to 3.98 metric tons.
