The volume of palay production in the Ilocos Region registered lower growth in 2nd quarter 2022 compared to its level, a year ago. The same period
recorded production of 182,757 metric tons, or 2.26 percent lower than the 186,988 metric tons output in 2nd quarter 2021 all came from the irrigated ecosystem.
As to the harvest area, the region marked a decrease of 4.62 percent or 36,860 hectares from the 38,644 hectares in 2nd quarter 2021. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare improved from 4.84 metric tons to 4.96 metric tons.

The province of La Union and Pangasinan posted higher volume of palay production in 2nd quarter 2022 while Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur experienced contraction.

Pangasinan contributed the bulk of palay production among the provinces, registering 70.36 percent of the total output of the region in 2nd quarter 2022. The province posted a production of 128,583 metric tons during the period, higher than the output in 2nd quarter 2021 of 127,808 metric tons. Similarly, the yield per hectare improved from 4.75 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2021 to 4.91 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2022. However, the area harvested decreased by 2.67 percent from 26,907 hectares in 2nd quarter 2021 to 26,188 hectares in the same period of 2022.

The province of Ilocos Norte, which shared 18.97 percent to the total palay production of the Ilocos Region in 2nd quarter 2022, recorded 34,676 metric tons output. This is 6.12 percent lower than the production of 36,963 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2021. The harvest area during the period went down from 7,172 hectares to 6,619 hectares. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare grew from 5.15 metric tons to 5.24 metric tons.
The volume of palay production in La Union registered 5.25 percent increase compared to its output in 2nd quarter 2021. The recorded palay produce of the province in 2nd quarter 2022 was 10,106 metric tons. The harvest area also increased from 2,115 hectares to 2,226 hectares during the period. The yield per hectare was pegged at 4.54 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2022.
The province of Ilocos Sur, which shared 5.14 percent to the total palay production of the Ilocos Region in 2nd quarter 2022, recorded 9,393 metric tons during the period. The output was lower by 25.70 percent from the 12,642 metric tons record in 2nd quarter 2021. The harvest area decreased from 2,450 hectares to 1,827 hectares. The yield per hectare also declined from 5.16 metric tons to 5.14 metric tons.
