Marriage ceremonies decrease by 62 percent  

  • There was a decrease of 62 percent in the registered marriages in January 2021. From 4,487 registered marriages in January 2021, Ilocos Region only registered 1,727 marriages in January 2021.
  • All provinces in the region decreased in the number of registered marriages in January 2021 compared to January 2020.
  • Ilocos Norte showed the biggest decrease in the number of registered marriages  at 69 percent.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of registered marriages (1,073) in January 2021 that is translated to a 62 percentage share to the region.  
  • La Union ranked second with the most number of registered marriages at 17 percent or 292 marriages.
  • Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte followed with 220 and 142 registered marriages, respectively.

Civil marriages highest in January 2021

  • There were 744 registered marriages through Civil ceremonies in January 2021.  It is the highest number of registered marriages among other types of ceremony.
  • Roman Catholic Church ceremonies followed at 597 registered marriages.
  • Two Muslim marriages were registered this month.

Teenage brides reached almost a hundred in January 2021

  • There were 90 teenage brides who were registered in January 2021.
  • The median age of brides based from the registered marriages in January 2021 was at 27 years old.  This means that half the number of brides was younger than 27 years old and half was older than 27 years old.
  • The grooms had a median age of 28 years old also. 
  • Most brides belong in the age group 25 to 29, contributing 42 percent of the total number.
  • The highest number of grooms was from the age group 25 to 29 that is 41 percent of the total number.  

Pangasinan covers 8 slots in the top 10 city/municipality with most registered marriages

  • In Region I, San Carlos City, Pangasinan ranked first with 87 registered marriages in January 2021.
  • This was followed by Dagupan City, Pangasinan with 75 registered marriages then  Malasiqui, Pangasinan with 71, Calasiao, Pangasinan with 52, Lingayen, Pangasinan with 47 and City of San Fernando, La Union with 44.
  • City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan followed with 38, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan with 36, and Agoo, La Union and Binmaley, Pangasinan with 31 marriages.
  • In Ilocos Norte, municipalities of Adams and Bangui recorded with one registered marriage each.
  • In Ilocos Sur, municipalities of Alilem, Cabugao and Sigay also recorded one marriage each in January 2021.
