Marriage ceremonies decrease by 10 percent  

  • There was a decrease of 33 percent in the registered marriages in December 2020. From 2,693 registered marriages in December 2019, Ilocos Region only registered 1,812 marriages in December 2020.
  • All provinces in the region decreased in the number of registered marriages from 2019 to 2020.  
  • La Union showed the biggest decrease in the number of registered marriages  at 38 percent.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of registered marriages (1,047) for December 2020 that is translated to a 58 percentage share to the region.  
  • Ilocos Sur ranked second with the most number of registered marriages (297).
  • La Union and Ilocos Norte followed with 273 and 195 registered marriages, respectively.

 Civil marriages highest in December 2020

  • There were 829 registered marriages through Civil ceremonies in December 2020.  It is the highest number of registered marriages among other types of ceremony.
  • Roman Catholic Church ceremonies followed at 595 registered marriages.
  • Three Muslim marriages were registered this month.

Teenage brides less than a hundred this month

  • There were 67 teenage brides who were registered in December 2020.
  • The median age of brides based from the registered marriages this December 2020  was at 27 years old.  This means that half the number of brides was younger than  27 years old and half was older than 27 years old.
  • The grooms had a median age of 28 years old also. 
  • Most brides belong in the age group 25 to 29, contributing 42 percent of the total number.
  • The highest number of grooms was from the age group 25 to 29 that is 44 percent of the total number.  

Pangasinan covers 8 slots in the top 10 city/municipality with most registered marriages

  • In Region I, Dagupan City, Pangasinan ranked first with 103 registered marriages in December 2020.
  • This was followed by San Carlos City, Pangasinan with 80 registered marriages then  Lingayen, Pangasinan with 55, Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur with 52, and City of San Fernando, La Union and Malasiqui, Pangasinan with 41.
  • Sta. Barbara, and City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan followed with 39 and 38 registered marriages, respectively.
  • In Ilocos Norte, municipality of Burgos recorded the least with one registered marriage.
  • San Emilio and Sugpon, Ilocos Sur also recorded one marriage each for December 2020.
