There were 667 marriages registered in La Union in 4th quarter 2021. This shows an increase of 50.90 percent from 442 marriages in the same period last year. (Table 1)

 

 

Almost all city/municipalities have increased number of registered marriages in 4th quarter 2021 compared with their figures in the same quarter last year. The top three municipalities that posted the highest increase in terms of percentage were Santol from 7 to 19 (171.43%), Sudipen from 41 to 78 (90.24%) and Aringay from 34 to 69 (97.14%).  (Table 1)

 

 

The City of San Fernando recorded the greatest number of registered marriages in
La Union in 4th quarter of 2021 with 111 marriages or 16.64 percent of the total registered marriages in the province. Bauang ranked second with 70 marriages (10.49 percent share) followed by Aringay with 69 marriages (10.34 percent share).

 

In the same quarter in 2020, the City of San Fernando also topped among the city/municipalities with 69 marriages or 15.61 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  Bauang ranked second with 40 marriages (9.05 percent share) followed by Agoo with 37 marriages (8.37 percent share).

 

On the other end, the municipality of Burgos posted the least number of registered marriages both in 4th quarter of 2020 and 2021 with 6 (1.36 percent share) and 9 (1.35 percent share), respectively. (Figure 1)

 

 

The month of December had the highest number of registered marriages in 4th quarter 2021 with a total of 415 registered marriages. This corresponds to a daily average of 13 which surpassed the provincial daily average of 7 marriage occurrences.

 

 

Meanwhile, in the previous year of the same quarter, the month of December recorded the highest number of registered marriages with 273 or a daily average of 9 marriages. The month of October followed with 96 marriages corresponding to a daily average of 3 marriages. The least daily average number of marriage occurrences was recorded in the month of November with 73 registered marriages translating to a daily average of 2 marriages. (Figure 2)

 

 

The biggest proportion of grooms who got married in 4th quarter of 2021 belonged to the age group 25 to 29 with 259 grooms. Similarly, the biggest proportion of brides also belonged to age group of 25 to 29 with 279.

 

On the contrary, the least proportion of grooms who got married belonged to the age group under the below 20 with 9 registered marriages. Meanwhile, the least number of brides belonged to the age group 45 to 49 with 6 registered marriages. (Figure 3)

 

 

In 4th quarter 2021, marriages performed through civil rites ranked first with 322 registered marriages (48.28 percent share). Marriage ceremonies solemnized in Roman Catholic churches ranked second with 191 or 28.64 percent of the total marriages in the province. This was followed by marriages performed by other religious rites with 152 marriages (22.79 percent share). On the other end, there were 11 marriages performed by Muslim Rites (0.30 percent share in 4th quarter 202131

            Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented includes marriages registered from October to December of 2020 and October to December 2021.
