The number of registered marriages in La Union increased by 0.27 percent from its level in 2018 which was 4,049 to 4,038 in 2019. 

Eleven out of twenty municipalities have decreased number of registered marriages in2019 compared with their 2018 figures.  The top three municipalities that posted the highest decrease were Lunafrom 263 to 169 (-35.74%), Sudipen from 98 to 80

(-18.37%) and Aringay from 256 to 224 (-12.50%). 

On the contrary, the biggest increase in the number of registered marriages in the province was noted in Burgos from 42 to 67 marriages (59.52%).  This was followed by Caba from 95 to 130 marriages (36.84%) and Bangar from 130 to 167 marriages (28.46%).

The City of San Fernando recorded the most number of registered marriages in
La Union in 2019 with 607 marriages or 15.03 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  Bauang ranked second with 410 marriages (10.15 percent share) followed by Agoowith 326 marriages (8.07 percent share).

In 2018, the City of San Fernando also topped the city/municipalities with 651 marriages or 16.08 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  It was then followed by Agoo with 344marriages (8.50 percent share) and Bauang with 327 marriages (8.08 percent share).

On the other end,the municipality of Burgos posted the least number of registered marriages in 2018 and 2019 with 42 (1.04 percent share) and 67(1.66 percent share) respectively.

The month of May was the most preferred month to tie the knot in 2019 with a total of 657 marriages. It corresponds to a daily average of 21 registered marriages which surpassed the provincial daily average number of 11 registered marriages in2019. April and January ranked second and third with a daily average of 21 and 20 marriages respectively.

The least number of marriage occurrences in 2019 was the month of August posting a daily average of four marriages.

On the other hand, the favorite month of couples to tie the knot in 2018 was the month of April with a daily average of 21 marriage occurrences. January ranked second with daily average of 20 marriages.  The least favored months for marriage were the months of August with a daily average of four marriage occurrences.

Marriages performed through civil ritesranked first with 1,968 marriages (48.74 percent share). Marriages ceremonies solemnized in Roman Catholic churchesranked second with 1,968 or 36.63 percent of the total marriages in La Union in 2019 distantly followed by other religious rites with 567 marriages (14.04 percent share).

Similarly,  civilrites alsoposted the highest number of marriages (1,944 or 48.0 percent share)in 2018followed by marriages ceremonies solemnized in Roman Catholic (1,563 or 38.6 percent share) and other religious rites (526 or 13.0 percent share).

            Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented includes marriages registered from January to December of 2018 and 2019.
