There were 1,158 marriages registered during the first quarter of 2020 showing a decrease of 5.93 percent from 1,231 marriages in the same period last year.

Sixty percent of the city/municipalities have decreased number of registered marriages in the first quarter of 2020 compared with theirfigures in the same period of2019.  The top three municipalities that posted the highest decrease were Aringayfrom 78 to 36 (-53.85%), Santol from 49 to 26 (-46.94%) and Burgos from 24 to 14 (-41.67%). 

On the contrary, the biggest increase in the number of registered marriages in the province was noted in Rosario from 69 to 128 marriages (85.51%).  This was followed by Bagulin from 21 to 36 marriages (71.43%) and Bangar from 35 to 51 marriages (45.71%).

 

In first quarter of 2020, San Fernando Cityrecordedthe greatest number of registered marriages in La Union with 169 marriages or 14.59 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  Rosario ranked second with 128 marriages (11.05 percent share) followed by Bauang with 94 marriages (8.12 percent share).

Same quarter a year ago, the lone cityalso topped the city/municipalities with 218 marriages or 17.71 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  It was then followed by Bauang with 112marriages (9.10 percent share) and Bacnotan with 84 marriages (6.82 percent share).

On the other end,the municipality of Burgos posted the least number of registered marriages during the first quarter of2020 with 14 (1.21 percent share). While the municipality of Bagulin recorded with least number of registered marriages in the same period a year ago with 21(1.71 percent share).

 

The month of January was the most preferred month to tie the knot bothduring the first quarter of2019and 2020 with a total of 611 marriages and 683 respectively. This corresponds to a daily average of 20 registered marriages and 22 registered marriages respectively.This surpassed the provincial daily average number of 13 registered marriages in the first quarter of 2020 and 14 registered marriagesin the same quarter last year.

 

The least number of marriage occurrences during the first quarter of 2020 was recorded in March with daily average of four marriage occurrences. Similarly, in last year's first quarter, the month of March also recorded the least daily average marriages with seven occurrences.

 

 

 

 

Explanatory Notes

Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented includes marriages registered from January to March of 2019 and 2020.
