Marine municipal fisheries volume of production increases to 5,821.72 metric tons
Marine Municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 5,821.72 metric tons in second quarter 2022. This is higher than the 5,156.07 metric tons production in second quarter
2021 by 12.91 percent. The subsector’s output comprised 13.09 percent of the total fisheries volume of production of 44,465.58 metric tons in the region.
Ilocos Sur registers the highest growth rate in the volume of production
Ilocos Sur had the highest increment in the volume of marine municipal production at 42.90 percent. Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte increases in production by 7.63 percent and 7.58 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the marine municipal fisheries production of La Union declined by 23.74 percent in second quarter 2022.
By provincial share, Pangasinan contributed 2,350.32 metric tons, equivalent to 40.37 percent share of the region’s marine municipal production. Ilocos Sur followed with a production of 1,928.66 metric tons or 33.13 percent, and Ilocos Norte at 1,048.61 metric tons equivalent to 18.01 percent. La Union has the least production contributing 494.13 metric tons or 8.49 percent of the total marine municipal production of the region.
Roundscad records the highest volume of production
The top 5 species captured in municipal marine fisheries were roundscad, squid, big-eyed scad, yellowfin tuna, and anchovies.
Roundscad posted the highest volume of marine municipal fisheries production of 1,505.54 metric tons, which comprises 25.86 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. Squid followed with a production of 1,233.24 metric tons or 21.18 percent, big-eyed scad (360.80 metric tons or 6.20 percent), yellowfin tuna (5.36 percent), and anchovies (4.29 percent).
