Marine municipal fisheries volume of production increased by 12.12 percent

Marine Municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 7,658.69 metric tons in the first quarter 2022, a 12.12 percent higher than the 6,830.51 metric tons produced in the first quarter of 2021. The subsector’s output comprised 23.47 percent of the total fisheries volume of production of 32,627.25 metric tons in the region.

La Union had the highest growth rate in the volume of production

La Union had the highest increment in the volume of marine municipal production at 43.76 percent. Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan increases in production at 10.58 percent and 2.18 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the marine municipal fisheries production of Ilocos Norte declined by 16.08 percent.

By provincial share, Pangasinan contributed 2,686.63 metric tons, equivalent to 35.08 percent share of the region’s marine municipal production. La Union followed with a production of 2,644.05 metric tons or 34.52 percent, Ilocos Sur with 1,434.11 metric tons equivalent to 18.73 percent, and Ilocos Norte with 11.67 percent of the total marine municipal production of the region.

Squid posted the highest volume of production

The top 5 species captured in municipal marine fisheries were squid, skipjack, yellowfin tuna, cavalla, and siganid.

Squid posted the highest volume of marine municipal fisheries production of 1,009.92 metric tons, which comprises 13.19 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. Skipjack followed with a production of 593.86 metric tons or 7.75 percent, yellowfin tuna (540.81 metric tons or 7.06 percent), cavalla (6.48 percent), and siganid (5.35 percent).
