ILOCOS SUR. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)- Ilocos Sur successfully conducted the March 2024 Inflation Results Press Briefing at the Provincial Statistical Office- Ilocos Sur, UNP Town Center, Tamag, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on 19 April 2024. The March 2024 Inflation Rate Press Briefing aimed to discuss and analyze the inflation rate of the province for the month of March.

Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) Jeanette M. Marzan reported Ilocos Sur’s March 2024 Inflation Results, noting an increase of 0.6 percent from the previous month. This follows a reversal in February 2024, increasing from -2.4 percent in January 2024 to 
-1.1 percent. Compare this to March 2023, the inflation rate was registered at 6.0 percent. More than that, she highlighted the major contributors to the March 2024 inflation in the province and the main sources of increase in the inflation.

CSS Marzan reiterated the importance of the monthly press briefing conducted by the PSA, wherein understanding the inflation rate provides essential information for decision-making, proper financial management and economic planning such as budgeting, household money management, and wealth preservation.

During the briefing, it also provided a platform for question-and-answer segment, allowing the media partners to raise their insights, and concerns regarding inflation and its impact on various sectors within the province.

The activity was attended by respected media partners, including, Philippine Information Agency (PIA)- Ilocos Sur, Core FM, and DWRS Commando Radio.  Also present at the press briefing was from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPAG) represented by Mr. Reginald Yadao, and Local Government Operations Officer (LGOO) VI, Mr. Francis Jayson C. Raquel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). They served as resource persons at the press briefing, providing additional information during the event.

The PSA releases the data on inflation rate every 5th day after the reference month through a press conference broadcasted live and through a press release posted on the PSA website at psa.gov.ph, reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accuracy, and timely dissemination of economic data, ensuring that stakeholders are equipped with the necessary information to navigate the ever-evolving economic landscape effectively.
