The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) awarded the winners of the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM) contests during the virtual closing ceremony held on October 27, 2020.
Dr. Christianne Lynnette C. Casem, Education Supervisor II from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), served as Keynote Speaker during the virtual closing ceremony. In her message, Dr. Casem highlighted on data-driven governance to build stakeholder-centered services that will cater to citizens’ and businesses’ needs. She also recognized the importance of data and analytics in all aspects of work and development especially in this time of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic when a shift in data and analytics abilities is vital to respond to the COVID-19 and build back better to amplify climate action, to promote gender equality, to protect human rights, to advance peace and security, and to accelerate government reform for greater impact on the ground.
After the keynote message, the winners of the 31st NSM virtual contests like the jingle-singing contest, oratorical contest, poster-slogan making contest, essay writing contest, and statistics quiz were awarded. In addition, the PGLU also awarded the winners of the first Governor’s Cup on Infographics that enjoined the participation of the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province. Winners of the NSM contests will be given cash prizes and will be notified on how they will claim their prizes.

The NSM was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990 that had declared the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month.
The PSA issued Memorandum Circular No. 2020-20 enjoining all agencies of the government, LGUs, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and the private sector at the national and subnational levels to actively participate in and support the 31st NSM celebration.
