Fisheries production increased by 0.55 percent

The overall fisheries production in the Ilocos Region registered 80,466.36 metric tons in 4th quarter 2021. It was higher by 0.55 percent  from the 80,026.79 metric tons produced in 4th quarter 2020. 

Ilocos Region contributed 7.13 percent of fisheries production

Ilocos Region contributed 7.13 percent to the 1,128,809.71 metric tons fisheries production in the country. It ranked 6th place among the regions in terms of volume of production.

Pangasinan contributed 91.79 percent of the region’s production

Pangasinan contributed the majority of the region’s fisheries production  with 91.79 percent share. The overall volume of production of the province was 73,859.76 metric tons. This was followed by La Union with a share  of 4.42 percent. Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur shared  1.99 percent and 1.80 percent, respectively, to the total fisheries production in the region. 

Commercial fisheries has the highest increment in production

The total volume of production of commercial fisheries in 4th quarter 2021 was 1,350.88 metric tons. Said production registered an increment  of 23.55 percent from the 1,093.39 metric tons in 4th quarter 2020. This subsector contributed 1.68 percent to the total fisheries production in the region.

Municipal fisheries production registered an output of 8,963.73 metric tons  in 4th quarter 2021. This is higher by 7.40 percent from the 8,346.22 metric tons in 4th quarter 2020 and has 11.14 percent share to the total fisheries production in the region. 

Aquaculture fisheries production recorded 70,151.75 metric tons  in 4th quarter 2021. It posted a reduction of 0.62 percent  from the 70,587.18 metric tons in the same quarter of 2020.  It has a contribution of 87.18 percent to the total volume of fisheries production in the region during the period.

The top five species contributing to the total fisheries production  of the Ilocos Region were milkfish, tilapia, yellowfin tuna, skipjack, and cavalla.

Milkfish has the biggest production with 66,053.93 metric tons  or 82.09 percent of the total volume of fisheries production in 4th quarter 2021. It went down by 1.21 percent from the 66,860.43 metric tons production in 4th quarter 2020. Production of tilapia was recorded  3,126.32 metric tons in 2021. It increased by 19.64 percent  from 2,613.16 metric tons output in the same quarter of 2020. Yellowfin tuna was estimated at 737.14 metric tons with a share of 0.92 percent  of the total fisheries production. It increased by 48.29 percent  from the 497.08 metric tons in 4th quarter 2020. 

Skipjack recorded an increase of 17.98 percent. Its production  was estimated at 681.45 metric tons and shared 0.85 percent of the total fisheries production in the region. Likewise, production of cavalla grew  by 47.63 percent. It has a production of 550.94 metric tons with share  of 0.68 percent of the total fisheries production.
