La Union ranked second in terms of production during the period. It contributed   4.08 percent to the total volume of production in the region. Its fisheries output went up from 1,543 metric tons in 4th quarter 2018 to 2,936 metric tons in 4th quarter 2019. All its fisheries subsectors contributed to the overall output increment.

Ilocos Norte, which accounted for 2.62 percent of the total volume of production in the region in 4th quarter 2019, also recorded higher fisheries production in 4th quarter 2019 compared with its level in 4th quarter 2018. The output was registered at    1,881 metric tons, higher than its production a year ago of 1,654 metric tons. The increase in the production of the municipal subsector contributed to the positive growth in the fisheries output of the province.

Ilocos Sur, which had the least percent share of 2.22 percent to the total fisheries production of Ilocos Region in 4th quarter 2019, recorded higher fisheries production compared with its level in the same period a year ago. From 1,464 metric tons production, it went up to 1,599 metric tons due to the improvement of output in all of its fisheries subsectors.

Commercial Fisheries

The commercial fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was posted at   1,228 metric tons in 4th quarter 2019. The output was higher than its level a year ago of 680 metric tons. All the provinces posted increases in output. The increased number of fishing boats, more fishing days, bigger sizes of catch, and presence of school of fish might contributed to the positive growth.

In terms of provincial shares, Pangasinan accounted for 70.52 percent of the region’s commercial fisheries volume of production in 4th quarter 2019. La Union followed with 24.59 percent share, and Ilocos Sur with 4.89 percent share.
