The overall fisheries production in llocos Region decreased by 5.83 percent in 2nd quarter 2020 as compared to same quarter of 2019 that is from 38,173 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2019 to 35,947 metric tons this year. llocos Norte and llocos Sur recorded higher output while La Union and Pangasinan registered lower production.

The commercial and aquaculture subsectors registered lower production in the total fisheries volume of production of Region I in 2nd quarter 2020 compared with their levels in 2019. The aquaculture subsector contributed 77.99 percent to the total fisheries output. The municipal fisheries accounted for 18.0'1 percent while the commercial subsector shared 4.00 percent.

ln terms of provincial distribution, the province of Pangasinan shared the bulk of production in the region with 75.94 percent. The overall volume of production of the province was posted at 27,298 metric tons. All the three subsectors posted decrease in output.

 
 
La Union distantly followed Pangasinan with an 11.47 percent share to the total volume of fisheries production in the reglon. lts production went down by 22.35 percent in 2nd quarter 2020 with an output of 4,124 metric tons from the output of 5,311 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2019. The commercial and aquaculture subsectors contributed to the overall negative performance of the province in terms of fisheries production.
 
Meanwhile, llocos Sur shared 6.53 percent to the total volume of production in the region. The fisheries production of the province was recorded at2,349 metric tons in 2nd quarter 2020, higher by 0.13 percent than the production a year ago of 2,346 metric tons. Higher catch in municipal subsector contributed to the overall increment in output.
 
The province of llocos Norte, which had 6.06 percent share of the total fisheries production of Region l, recorded higher fisheries production in 2nd quarter 2020 compared with its level a year ago. From 1,293 metric tons production, it went up to 2,176 metric lons attributed to the higher output of both municipal and aquaculture subsectors.
 
Commercial Fisheries
The commercial fisheries volume of production in Region I was posted at 1,437 metric tons in the 2nd quarter 202A. The output was lower by 18.90 percent than the level in 2nd quarter 2019 of 1,772 metric tons. All the provinces posted decreases in output due to lesser school of fish, repair of some fishing vessels, lesser catch from payaos and smaller sizes of catch.
 
ln terms of provincial shares, Pangasinan accounted for 72.66 percent of the region's commercial fisheries volume of production in 2nd quarter 2020. La Union followed with 17.24 percent share, and llocos Sur with 10.10 percent share.
 
The top five major catch in the region during the quarter were Roundscad, Skipjack, Frigate tuna, Eastem little tuna and Threadfin bream.
       
Municipal Fisheries
 
The overall municipal fisheries production in llocos Region went up by 20.79 percent in 2nd quarter 2020. The production was posted at 6,476 metric tons, higher than its output in 2nd quarter 2019 of 5,361 metrictons. Both the marine and inland municipal fisheries recorded higher production.
 
Marine Municipal
Production of Marine Municipal Fisheries in Region I grew in the 2nd quarter 2020. lts output was posted at 5,882 metric tons, higher by 18.77 percent than the output in the 2nd quarter 2019 of 4,952 metric tons. All the provinces, except Pangasinan, contributed to the overall increment in the volume of production.
 
The province of Pangasinan contributed 33.74 percent to the region's marine municipal fish catch for the 2nd quarter 2020, followed by llocos Norte with 32.22 percent share, llocos Sur with 24.68 percent share, and La Union with 9.36 percent. The dominant catch in marine municipal fisheries of Region I during the period were Roundscad, Squid, Yellowfin tuna, Cavalla and Skipjack
lnland Municipal Fisheries
Production of lnland Municipal Fisheries in Region I grew by 45.30 percent in the 2nd quarter 2020. From the output of 408 metric tons in the same period last year, it went up to 593 metric tons this year. All the provinces registered positive growth in output.
 
 
ln terms of provincial distribution, llocos Sur ranked first in the volume of production of lnland municipal fisheries during the 2nd quarter 2020 with 36.80 percent share. Pangasinan followed with 27.66 percent share, La Union with 22.47 percent, and llocos Norte with 13.07 percent.

The top five major catch in the region during the period were Tilapia, Blue crab, Freshwater shrimp, Mullet and Freshwater goby.
Aquaculture
Aquaculture production of Region I posted a production of 28,034 metric tons in the 2nd quarter 2020. This is 9.68 percent lower than the production in 2nd quarter 2019 of 31,040 metric tons. Lesser area was harvested due to early harvest in 1st quarter 2020 and stopped operation of some farms. Lower survival rate and smaller sizes of produce were observed due to high water salinity.
       
The province of Pangasinan shared the bulk of aquaculture production in the 2nd quarter 2020 with 85.98 percent. By culture type, aquaculture in Region I was dominated by Brackishwater cage which accounted for 39.33 percent of the total production.
 
Milkfish production in the 2nd quarter 2020 registered at 14,920 metric tons, lower by 14.79 percent than its output in the same quarter last year of 17,510 metric tons. Lower survival rate, smaller sizes of produce and lesser units harvested were the factors that contributed to the positive growth in output. Bulk of milkfish production came from the province of Pangasinan.
