The commercial fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region  was posted at 1,093 metric tons in the 4th quarter 2020. The output  was lower by 10.98 percent than the level in 4th quarter 2019  of 1,228 metric tons. 

The provinces of Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan posted decreases in output which pulled down the overall commercial fisheries production  of the region.

The top five major catch in the region during the quarter were Skipjack, Frigate tuna, Roundscad, Bigeye tuna, and Slipmouth.

In terms of provincial shares, Pangasinan accounted for 64.53 percent  of the region’s commercial fisheries volume of production in 4th quarter 2020. The province recorded a production of 706 metric tons, lower than the output in 4th quarter 2019 of 866 metric tons. Lesser fishing trips  due to frequent gale warnings caused the lower growth in the volume  of catch. 

The top five major catch in Pangasinan during the quarter were Frigate tuna, Skipjack, Roundscad, Bigeye tuna, and Yellowfin tuna.

La Union which shared 30.52 percent to the total commercial fish catch  of the region in 4th quarter 2020 posted increment in output.  From the 302 metric tons recorded in the same period of 2019, it grew  to 334 metric tons in the 4th quarter 2020 due to increased number  of fishing days, presence of more school of fish, and bigger sizes of catch.

The top five major catch in La Union during the quarter were Slipmouth, Hairtail, Squid, Indian mackerel, and Goatfish.

The province of Ilocos Sur shared 4.95 percent to the total commercial fisheries volume of production in the 4th quarter 2020. Its production during

the period went down by 9.55 percent from 60 metric tons  in 4th quarter 2019. Lesser fishing operations due to rough seas  and absence of school of fish caused the decline fish catch. Major species which contributed to the total output of the province include Skipjack, Yellowfin tuna, Roundscad.
