The commercial fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region  was posted at 5,227 metric tons in 2020. The output was lower  by 4.63 percent than the level in 2019 of 5,481 metric tons.

The provinces of Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan posted decreases in output which pulled down the overall commercial fisheries production  of the region.

The top five major catch in the region in 2020 were Roundscad, Skipjack, Frigate tuna, Threadfin bream, and Bigeye tuna.

In terms of provincial shares, Pangasinan accounted for 73.23 percent  of the region’s commercial fisheries volume of production in 2020.  The province recorded a production of 3,828 metric tons, lower than the output in 2019 of 4,122 metric tons. Lesser fishing trips due to frequent gale warnings, decreased number of boats and lesser school of fish resulted to lower output.

The top five major catch in Pangasinan in 2020 were Roundscad, Skipjack, Frigate tuna, Bigeye tuna, and Threadfin bream.

La Union which shared 20.34 percent to the total commercial fish catch  of the region in 2020 posted increment in output. From the 1,013 metric tons recorded in 2019, it grew to 1,064 metric tons in 2020 due to increased number of fishing days, presence of more school of fish, and bigger sizes of catch.

The top five major catch in La Union during the period were Hairtail, Indian mackerel, Slipmouth, Big-eye scad, and Threadfin bream.

The province of Ilocos Sur shared 6.43 percent to the total commercial fisheries volume of production in 2020. Its production during the period went own by 2.76 percent. From 346 metric tons in 2019, it decreased  to 336 metric tons in 2020. Lesser fishing operations due to rough seas and decreased number of school of fish caused the decline of fish catch. Major species which contributed to the total output of the province include Frigate tuna, Roundscad, Skipjack,  and Yellowfin tuna.
