Household population comprises 99.09 percent of the total population

  • As of 01 May 2020, the City of San Fernando, La Union had a total population of 125,640 persons. Of this total, the household population comprised 99.09 percent or 124,494 persons. This is 3.28 thousand higher than the 121,219 household population in 2015, and 9.94 thousand more than the 114,556 household population posted in 2010. (Table A)

  • The remaining 0.91 percent of the total population is comprised of the institutional population or those residing in collective or institutional living quarters such as hospitals, orphanages, and military camps; and of Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.

 

 

Number of households increased by 3.68 thousand from 28.51 thousand in 2015 to 32.18 thousand in 2020

  • The total number of households in City of San Fernando, La Union reached 32,184 in 2020. This is higher by 3.68 thousand compared with the 28,505 households in 2015 and by 6.03 thousand compared with 26,154 households in 2010. (Table B)

 

 

One in every five households in the City are in Barangays Sevilla, Catbangen, and Lingsat

  • Among the 59 barangays, Sevilla had the most number of households in 2020 with 2,847, followed by Catbangen with 2,486, and Lingsat with 1,883. These three barangays comprised 22.42 percent of the total households in the city. Barangay III (Pob.) posted the least number of households with 86 households.

 

 

Average household size declines to 3.9 persons in 2020

  • The average household size (AHS) of the city decreased from 4.3 persons in 2015 to 3.9 persons in 2020. In 2010, there were 4.4 persons, on average, per household. (Table C and Figure 1)

  • Eighteen out of 59 barangays posted an AHS higher than the city’s AHS of 3.9 persons.
