Household population comprises 99.86 percent of the total population

As of 01 May 2020, Balaoan, La Union had a total population of 40,339 persons. Of this total, the household population comprised 99.86 percent or 40,283 persons. This is 1.13 thousand higher than the 39,155 household population in 2015, and 2.40 thousand more than the 37,887 household population posted in 2010. (Table A)

The remaining 0.14 percent of the total population is comprised of the institutional population or those residing in collective or institutional living quarters such as hospitals, orphanages, and military camps; and of Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.
Number of households increased by 1.24 thousand from 8.96 thousand in 2015 to 10.20 thousand in 2020

The total number of households in Balaoan, La Union reached 10,204 in 2020. This is higher by 1.24 thousand compared with the 8,963 households in 2015 and by 2.08 thousand compared with 8,129 households in 2010. (Table B)
One in every five households in the municipality are in Barangay Paraoir, Bulbulala, Dr. Camilo Osias Pob. (Cabuaan), Calungbuyan, and Nalasin

Among the 36 barangays, Paraoir had the most number of households in 2020 with 480, followed by Bulbulala with 461, Dr. Camilo Osias Pob. (Cabuaan) with 436, Calungbuyan with 417 and Nalasin with 405. These five barangays comprised 21.55 percent of the total households in the municipality. On the other end, the barangay of Baracbac Oeste posted the least number of households with 116 households.
Average household size declines to 3.9 persons in 2020

The average household size (AHS) of the municipality decreased from 4.4 persons in 2015 to 3.9 persons in 2020. In 2010, there were 4.7 persons, on average, per household. (Table C and Figure 1)

Fifteen out of 36 barangays posted an AHS higher than the municipality’s AHS of 3.9 persons.
