Municipality of Aringay posted a total population of 50,380 persons

The municipality of Aringay in La Union posted a total population of 50,380 persons based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). The total population of the municipality accounted for about 6.13 percent of the total population of La Union as of May 1, 2020.

 

The 2020 population of Aringay was higher by 2,922 persons compared with the population of 47,458 in 2015 and by 5,431 persons compared with the population of 44,949 persons in 2010. (Table 1)

Population increases by 13 persons per year for every 1,000 persons

 

The total population of Aringay increased by 1.26 percent annually during the period of 2015 to 2020. This means that, on the average, there were about 13 persons added per year for every 1,000 persons in the population of the municipality during the period  of 2015 to 2020. By comparison, the rate at which the municipality’s population grew during the period of 2010 to 2015 was lower at 1.04 percent. Similarly, the municipality’s annual population growth rate was also lower during the period of 2000 to 2010 at 0.82 percent.  (Figure 1)

 

Population density increases by 6.24 percent from 2015 to 2020

With a total land area of approximately 84.54 square kilometers, Aringay recorded a population density of 596 persons per square kilometer.   This represents an increase of 35 persons per square kilometer or 6.24 percent increase from the population density of 561 persons per square kilometer in 2015.  In 2010, there were 532 persons residing in every square kilometer of land in the province. (Table 2)

 

San Eugenio is the most populous barangay in Aringay in 2020

Among the 24 barangays in the municipality of Aringay, Barangay San Eugenio was the most populous with a total population of 4,172 persons contributing to 8.28 percent of the total municipal population. Barangays San Benito Sur, Dulao, Santa Rita West and Poblacion followed with 3,727 persons (7.40 percent share); 3,641 persons (7.23 percent share); 3,640 persons (7.23 percent share); and 3,505 (6.96 percent share), respectively. On the other hand, San Juan East was the least populous barangay with a total population of 1,002 persons or 1.99 percent of the municipality’s total population. It was followed by Pangao-aoan West, Alaska, San Simon East, and San Antonio with 1,004 persons (1.99 percent share); 1,048 persons (2.08 percent share); 1,131 persons (2.24 percent share); and 1,151 persons (2.28 percent share), respectively. (Figure 3)

 

Gallano was the fastest growing barangay in the municipality of Aringay with an annual population growth rate of 4.75 percent during the period of 2015 to 2020. It was followed by San Benito Norte (2.86%), Pangao-aoan East (2.35%), San Antonio (2.28%), and Macabato (2.20%). (Figure 4)

The population count is declared official for all purposes by the President of the Philippines, pursuant to Proclamation No. 1179 dated 06 July 2021. The total population represents the total number of persons living as of 12:01 AM on 01 May 2020 in the country. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.
