Municipality of Agoo posted a total population of 66,028 persons

The municipality of Agoo, La Union posted a total population of 66,028 persons based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). The total population of the municipality accounted for about 8.03 percent of the total population of La Union as of May 1, 2020.

 

The 2020 population of Agoo was higher by 2,336 persons compared with the population of 63,692 in 2015 and by 5,432 persons compared with the population of 60,596 persons in 2010. (Table 1)

 

Population increases by 8 persons per year for every 1,000 persons

The total population of Agoo increased by 0.76 percent annually during the period of 2015 to 2020. This means that, on the average, there were about 8 persons added per year for every 1,000 persons in the population of the municipality during the period  of 2015 to 2020. By comparison, the rate at which the municipality’s population grew during the period of 2010 to 2015 was higher at 0.95 percent. Similarly, the municipality’s annual population growth rate was also higher during the period of 2000 to 2010 at 1.56 percent.  (Figure 1)

 

Population density increases by 3.73 percent from 2015 to 2020

With a total land area of approximately 52.84 square kilometers, Agoo recorded a population density of 1,250 persons per square kilometer that marked the municipality as the most densely populated municipality in the province in 2020.   This represents an increase of 45 persons per square kilometer or 3.73 percent increase from the population density of 1,205 persons per square kilometer in 2015.  In 2010, there were 1,147 persons residing in every square kilometer of land in the province.

San Nicolas West is the most populous barangay in Agoo in 2020

Among the 49 barangays in the municipality of Agoo, Barangay San Nicolas West was the most populous with a total population of 2,741 persons contributing to 4.15 percent of the total municipal population. Barangays San Agustin East, San Manuel Norte, San Antonio and San Isidro followed with 2,479 persons (3.75 percent share); 2,384 persons (3.61 percent share); 2,351 persons (3.56 percent share); and 2,324 (3.52 percent share), respectively. (Figure 2)

 

On the other hand, San Nicolas Sur (Pob.) was the least populous barangay with a total population of 511 persons or 0.77 percent of the municipality’s total population. It was followed by San Nicolas Norte (Pob.), San Julian Central, Macalva Central, and Santa Rita East with 539 persons (0.82 percent share); 610 persons (0.92 percent share); 662 persons (1.00 percent share); and 708 persons (1.07 percent share), respectively. Santa Monica was the fastest growing barangay in the municipality of Agoo with an annual population growth rate of 5.16 percent during the period of 2015 to 2020. It was followed by San Roque East (4.63%), Ambitacay (3.56%), Purok (3.44%), and San Manuel Norte (3.43%). (Figure 4)

The total population presented in this release is based on the 2020 CPH. The population count is declared official for all purposes by the President of the Philippines, pursuant to Proclamation No. 1179 dated 06 July 2021. The total population represents the total number of persons living as of 12:01 AM on 01 May 2020 in the country. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad.
