A total of 680 deaths were registered in La Union in July 2021. The figure indicated an increase of 46.87 percent from the 463 death occurrences in the same month of 2020.

 

The number of deaths in July 2021 translates to an average of 22 death occurrences per day. The figure was higher than the 2020 daily average death occurrences of 15.

 

The City of San Fernando ranked first in terms of the number of registered deaths in July of 2021 with 256 or 37.65 percent of the total registered deaths in the province. The municipality of Agoo placed second with 66 registered deaths (9.71%), followed by Balaoan with 43 (6.32%), San Juan with 36 (5.29%), and Rosario with 34 (5.00%).

 

In the same month of the previous year 2020, the City of San Fernando still has the highest record of registered deaths with 162 deaths (34.99%) of the provincial total. This was followed by Agoo with 47 registered deaths (10.15%), Rosario with 33 (7.13%), Bauang with 25 (5.40%) and San Juan with 20 (4.32%).

In the municipality of Bagulin recorded the least number of registered deaths in the July 2021 with four deaths (0.59%). It was followed by municipality of San Gabriel with five deaths (0.74%) and Santol, Pugo and Burgos with seven deaths (1.03%).

 

In the same month last year, the municipality of Burgos had the least number of registered deaths with three deaths (0.65%) followed by the municipalities of Santol with four (0.86%) and Sudipen with seven deaths each (1.51%).

There were more death occurrences among males with a record of 386 than females which have 294 in the province of La Union in July 2021.  The computed sex ratio during the month was 131. The computed figure of sex ratio means that there are 131 male deaths per 100 female deaths.

 

A total of 13 city/municipalities posted a sex ratio higher than the provincial sex ratio, the highest of which were recorded in the municipalities of Santol with sex ratio of 600,

 

Bacnotan with 500, San Gabriel with 400, Aringay with 320 and Bauang with 158. The lowest sex ratio of 40 was noted in Pugo.

 

In July 2021, there were more timely registered deaths of 662 than late registration of deaths of 18 in La Union. The City of San Fernando got the highest record of timely with 251. Meanwhile, Agoo ranked second with 66 registered deaths, followed by Balaoan with 42, Rosario with 34, and San Juan with 31.

 

On the other hand, the City of San Fernando and the municipality of San Juan had the highest number of late death registration in the province with five deaths each. This

 

was followed by Bauang with two registered deaths. The municipalities of Agoo, Aringay, Balaoan, Bangar, Sudipen, and Tubao had one late death registration registered death each.

Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Death (Municipal Form 103) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information included deaths registered in July 2020 and July 2021.
